01
Product and performance
A manufacturer product warranty covers defined faults; a panel performance warranty normally concerns long-term power output. Neither automatically covers labour, access or business failure.
02
Workmanship
Ask who provides the installation workmanship promise, how a claim is made, whether it is insurance-backed and which exclusions apply.
03
MCS certification and RECC membership
MCS certification (currently MIS 3002 v6.0) is the installation-quality standard and is required to register for Smart Export Guarantee payments. RECC membership is a separate, sales-and-contract-focused consumer protection scheme approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. Ask an installer to confirm both, in writing, with registration numbers you can check independently.
04
Handover evidence
Confirm the documents needed for operation, warranty claims, future sale, grid and export processes will be supplied after commissioning.
